Honeymoon Murder Case: SC Directs Sonam Raghuvanshi to Surrender In 3 Weeks after Cancelling Bail
The Supreme Court on Thursday directed honeymoon murder case accused Sonam Raghuvanshi to surrender before the trial court within three weeks, while granting her liberty to seek bail again if the trial is not completed within six months.
The order comes after the Meghalaya government challenged the bail granted to Sonam, who is accused of conspiring in the murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, during their honeymoon in Meghalaya in May 2025.
The apex court said she could either contest her bail on merits or surrender while key prosecution witnesses are examined, indicating that the latter would be the more appropriate course. The prosecution argued that the mention of Section 403 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) instead of the murder provision, Section 103, in the arrest documents was merely a typographical error and could not be a valid ground for granting bail.
