Iran Escalates Tensions, Threatens Regional Infrastructure after Trump’s Warning
Tehran: Iran has warned that it will target bridges and critical infrastructure across the Middle East if the United States carries out President Donald Trump’s threat in response to attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz to strike Iranian bridges and power plants. The warning marks a sharp escalation in tensions amid the ongoing crisis over one of the world’s busiest oil shipping routes.
A senior Iranian official told the semi-official Tasnim News Agency that any US attack on Iranian civilian infrastructure would trigger a direct response against regional infrastructure, including energy facilities linked to American interests. “If an Iranian bridge or power plant gets targeted by the Americans, Iran will attack not only infrastructure and bridges across the region, but also the energy facilities in which especially the United States has interests,” the official said.
The warning follows Trump’s statement that the US would destroy an Iranian bridge or power plant for every Iranian attack on commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. The exchange of threats has heightened fears of a broader regional conflict that could disrupt global energy supplies and shipping.
