Kerala CM Seeks Anti-Drug Cooperation from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan has written to the chief ministers of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, seeking stronger inter-state cooperation to combat drug trafficking and curb the spread of narcotic substances.

According to a release issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) on Wednesday, the initiative is part of the Kerala government’s ongoing anti-drug campaign, Operation Toofan, which has prepared to eliminate drug abuse in the state and disassemble trafficking networks. In his letter, Satheesan said intelligence-based enforcement under Operation Toofan has been significantly intensified as part of the state’s efforts to crack down on drug-related crimes. Operation Toofan has been launched as a comprehensive campaign to curb the availability of narcotic drugs, identify trafficking syndicates and protect communities, particularly young people, from the growing threat of substance abuse.

He stressed that the growing menace of interstate drug trafficking requires coordinated action among neighbouring states, including enhanced intelligence sharing, joint enforcement measures and closer cooperation between law enforcement agencies. A united regional approach would help disrupt trafficking networks more effectively and strengthen the fight against narcotics as the chief minister expressed.
