NEET Row: Supreme Court Upholds Right to Peaceful Protest, Fixes Hearing on Tuesday

NEW DELHI: The right to peaceful protest is constitutionally guaranteed as the Supreme Court on Monday observed. Supreme Court agreed to protest over the NEET paper leak and other examination irregularities and to hear on Tuesday a batch of petitions alleging police excesses against students.

A bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant, along with Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana, also agreed to hear a separate plea filed by family members of police personnel allegedly attacked during the protests. “The right to peaceful protest is guaranteed. That cannot be denied. Merely because there is agitation cannot justify police excesses,” the Chief Justice remarked.
