Sonam Wangchuk Calls Off Fast After Centre Assures Accountability in Paper Leak Cases

NEW DELHI: Activist Sonam Wangchuk on Friday released a video message after ending his 26-day hunger strike, saying the Centre had assured him of broader reforms following the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak controversy. In the video, Wangchuk said that on the 26th day of his fast, the two Union ministers, along with leaders of the Ladakh Apex Body, visited him.

Wangchuk, who had been on an indefinite fast over the alleged examination paper leak, ended his protest after weeks of discussions with the Central Government. Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh met him at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, where his wife, Gitanjali J. Angmo, was also present.

He also noted that around 65 Members of Parliament from different political parties had appealed to him to end his hunger strike.
