Speaker to Consult Both TMC Factions before Ruling on Split, Mamata Camp Receives Notice: Sources

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will hear submissions from both the Trinamool Congress (TMC) faction led by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the group of defected MPs before taking a decision on whether to grant recognition to the breakaway faction, sources said.

According to sources, the Speaker’s office has already reached out to the Banerjee-led faction through an email, seeking its views on the matter. The development comes amid an ongoing dispute over the status of a group of TMC MPs who have sought recognition as a separate bloc in Parliament.

The Mamata Banerjee-led faction has been significantly reduced in strength following the defections, making the issue of recognition politically significant. The Speaker’s final decision is expected after examining the legal and procedural aspects of the case, along with the representations made by both factions.
