‘Supreme’ setback for Meenakshi Natarajan; Court says she cannot interfere in the electoral process.
New Delhi: The Supreme Court has dismissed the petition filed by Congress leader Meenakshi Natarajan. During the hearing on Friday, the Court stated that she cannot interfere in the election process. During the hearing, the apex court clarified that the limits of judicial intervention are defined once the election process has commenced, and the court cannot interfere at this stage. This Supreme Court verdict is being seen as a major setback for Meenakshi Natarajan.
It is worth noting that the Congress party has suffered a major political setback in Madhya Pradesh ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections. Party candidate Meenakshi Natarajan’s nomination was rejected during the scrutiny process. With this, the contest for the state’s third Rajya Sabha seat came to an end, and the unopposed election of BJP candidate Mahesh Kevat was assured. The BJP had accused the Congress candidate of concealing a criminal case in the nomination affidavit.
The investigation revealed that he had not mentioned a court complaint in his affidavit. Due to this, their nomination paper was deemed incomplete and was rejected. A senior Assembly official stated that BJP candidate Mahesh Kevat had lodged a complaint regarding this matter with the election officer. The complaint in Telangana alleged that Natarajan had deliberately concealed information regarding a court case registered against him
