FIFA World Cup 2026 from starts from today: 48 teams, 104 matches, excitement grows around Messi-Ronaldo

The world’s most popular sport, The FIFA World Cup is set to begin on Thursday. For the first time in history, the Football World Cup will be held in 16 venues across three countries, with a maximum of 48 countries participating. This brings the total number of matches in the World Cup to 104, the most in any previous edition. The opening ceremonies of the prestigious tournament will be held in Mexico, Canada and the United States. The World Cup will officially begin on Thursday at the historic Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.

It will feature global superstars Shakira and Burna Boy performing for the first time on the tournament’s official song, ‘Dai Dai’. Bollywood’s Nora Fatehi will also perform on this occasion. The ceremony will pay special tribute to football legends Pele and Diego Maradona. There was uncertainty about the broadcast in India, as most matches in the tournament started after midnight Indian time. Zee Entertainment has finally bagged the broadcasting rights for the World Cup. The entire tournament will be broadcast on Unite 8 Spotters and the Zee5 app.
