TMC Leader Abhishek Banerjee Questioned by ED in Primary School Recruitment Scam Probe
Kolkata: Sleuths of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday began questioning Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee in connection with the agency’s ongoing probe into the alleged primary school recruitment scam. According to an ED official, investigators have prepared a list of around two dozen questions for Banerjee as part of their efforts to examine various aspects of the alleged irregularities in the recruitment process and Banerjee was questioned by the CID for nearly eight-and-a-half hours on Sunday regarding the matter.
The questioning by the federal agency comes a day after Banerjee appeared before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of West Bengal Police in a separate case related to the alleged forgery of legislators’ signatures on documents concerning the appointment of the Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly. The alleged primary school recruitment scam has remained under scrutiny by central investigative agencies, with several political leaders and former education officials facing questioning as part of the ongoing investigation. The ED is probing the money laundering angle linked to the alleged recruitment irregularities.
