India Beat Uruguay 3-2, finishing unbeaten to top the Women’s Nations Cup Pool
AUCKLAND: India staged a spirited comeback after conceding an early goal to defeat Uruguay 3-2 and finish atop Pool A in the FIH Women’s Nations Cup New Zealand on Thursday. The victory marked India’s third successive win in the tournament, following earlier triumphs over the USA and Japan, ensuring an unbeaten run in the group stage.
Forward Deepika starred with a brace, while Deepika Soreng also found the net as India recovered strongly after falling behind early in the match. With the win, India secured the top spot in Pool A and booked a place in the semifinals. The USA finished second in the group to also advance to the last four.
India will now face the winner of the Pool B clash between Chile and Korea in the semifinal scheduled for June 20, as they continue their pursuit of the Women’s Nations Cup title.
