SC Allows Release of Animated Film ‘Mahaprabhu Jagannath’ After Lord Jagannath Yatra

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday allowed the nationwide release of the animated film Mahaprabhu Jagannath on or after July 28, after the conclusion of the Lord Jagannath Yatra festivities.

A bench of Justices BV Nagarathna and R Mahadevan noted that the film was based on a web series already available on YouTube and had received certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The apex court passed the order while hearing a plea by the film’s producers challenging the Orissa High Court’s stay on the movie’s release, which had originally been scheduled for Friday.
