Govt May Tighten Paper Leak Law: Longer Jail Terms, Higher Fines, Time-Bound Trials on Cabinet Agenda

New Delhi: The Narendra Modi government is likely to consider major changes to strengthen the anti-paper leak law at the Union Cabinet meeting on Friday. According to sources, the proposed amendments to the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, include longer jail terms, steeper financial penalties and mandatory timelines for completing trials in cases related to organised examination fraud.

The Centre is examining measures to make the law more stringent against interstate paper leak syndicates that compromise the integrity of public examinations. The proposed changes are expected to be taken up for discussion during Friday’s Cabinet meeting as the government seeks tougher action against organised exam-related crimes.
