Chaos in MP’s Datia as Narottam Mishra Backers Protest BJP Ticket Decision, Clash with Cops

DATIA (MP): Violence broke out in Madhya Pradesh’s Datia district on Saturday after supporters of senior BJP leader Narottam Mishra clashed with police and blocked National Highway-44 over the party’s decision to deny him a ticket for the July 30 assembly bypoll.

More than 3,000 protesters staged a blockade that lasted nearly 12 hours, disrupting traffic and escalating tensions. During the clashes, the Datia Superintendent of Police and several police personnel sustained injuries, officials said.

Security forces later cleared the highway and detained several protesters to restore normalcy. The unrest followed the BJP’s announcement of Ashutosh Tiwari as its candidate for the Datia assembly byelection, a move that sparked anger among Mishra’s supporters.
