China issues alert over fresh flood threat at Tibet-Nepal border

BEIJING: China has issued a Level-IV emergency alert in Tibet following devastating flash floods near the Tibet-Nepal border, warning that a newly formed barrier lake could breach inundating downstream areas.

The Ministry of Water Resources issued the alert on Thursday night over the lake formed near the confluence of the Chhochen Khola and Purepu Tsangpo rivers. Both rivers originate in Tibet and flow into Nepal as part of the Bhote Koshi river system.
