Mumbai Soaked by Heavy Rains as Several Areas Record 100 mm in 24 Hours; Local Trains Delayed.

MUMBAI: Heavy rainfall lashed several parts of Mumbai over the past 24 hours, with many areas recording more than 100 mm of precipitation by 8 am on Wednesday, leading to waterlogging in low-lying pockets, traffic diversions, and delays in suburban train services, officials said.

The Andheri subway, one of the city’s key traffic corridors, was among the worst-affected locations after being inundated by rainwater. Waterlogging was also reported from a few other low-lying areas, prompting civic authorities and traffic police to divert vehicular movement to ensure commuter safety.

Despite the heavy downpour, Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) buses continued to operate normally across the city, providing some relief to commuters. However, Mumbai’s suburban rail network, the city’s lifeline, experienced disruptions. Officials said local train services on both the Central Railway and Western Railway were running with some delays due to the adverse weather conditions.
