Only CWMA Can Decide Cauvery Water Sharing, Says DMK

CHENNAI: Senior DMK leader T K S Elangovan on Thursday said only the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) has the authority to decide on Cauvery water sharing, asserting that the Karnataka government has no jurisdiction over the river. His remarks came after reports that Karnataka’s detailed project report for the proposed Mekedatu dam was returned for failing to comply with the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal Award and Supreme Court rulings.

Elangovan also dismissed reports of a proposed meeting between Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. P. Vijayakanth and Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar on the issue, calling it a “show off.”
