Shahjahanpur row: Councillor resigns over oath to share civic development funds

SHAHJAHANPUR (UP): A nominated woman councillor of the Shahjahanpur Municipal Corporation, Poonam Mehrotra, has resigned, saying she was hurt by a viral video purportedly showing councillors taking an oath to share civic funds and using objectionable language against women.

Mehrotra, who is linked to the BJP, submitted her resignation to the municipal commissioner on Thursday. She said the video had brought disrepute to other councillors and expressed concern over alleged corruption in the constituency of Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna.
