UP Floods Trigger Mass Evacuations: 16,000+ Moved to Safety across 23 Districts
LUCKNOW: Flood conditions continued to persist in parts of Uttar Pradesh, with 23 districts currently affected out of 35 districts impacted during the ongoing spell, officials said.
A total of 16,784 people have been evacuated to safety, including 3,042 people rescued on Wednesday as authorities intensified relief and rescue operations across the flood-hit areas. Three people have died in rain-related incidents. The deceased include 18-month-old Priyansh from Pratapgarh and Shera, 32, and Suresh, 55, from Gajraula in Amroha district, officials said.
The state government has deployed 1,499 boats and motorboats for rescue and relief operations and pressed 1,067 medical teams into service to assist affected communities.
The affected districts include Ayodhya, Azamgarh, Ballia, Barabanki, Badaun, Chandauli, Farrukhabad, Ghazipur, Gorakhpur, Hardoi, Kasganj, Lakhimpur Kheri, Mirzapur, Moradabad, Pilibhit, Prayagraj, Raebareli, Sant Kabir Nagar, Shahjahanpur, Sitapur, Sonbhadra, Unnao and Varanasi.
Authorities have also established 1,311 flood shelters, of which 201 were operational, while relief agencies provided assistance in 442 cases involving damaged houses. Around 36,287 livestock have also been affected.
The flood situation has remained particularly challenging in parts of eastern and southern Uttar Pradesh, with rising river levels and inundation disrupting normal life in several areas.
