A severe blow to Trump, US Senate passes Presidential Impeachment Motion!
New Delhi: It has been seen there is a major shake-up in American politics. The US House of Representatives has passed a resolution against the president, although there is an opposition from the Speaker. Four Republican lawmakers were seen shaking hands with Democrats. In the Iran war, US President Donald Trump has suffered his biggest political setback. The fear of President Trump has finally come true. An important proposal to limit the president’s war powers has been passed in the US House of Representatives- the lower house of the US Congress. Despite repeated attempts by the Speaker of the House Mike Johnson to reject the proposal but he failed, and the proposal was passed after some ruling Republican lawmakers joined forces with opposition Democrats. Even leaders in his own party has now started questioning to the President Trump’s strategy in the ongoing conflict with Iran. Many Republican Party members and their voters do not want the involvement of the United States in another indefinite war in the Middle East. As a result, four influential Republican lawmakers (Thomas Massie, Brian Fitzpatrick, Warren Davidson, and Tom Barrett) voted in favour of the bill which gave Trump a major blow. The voting on the war power proposal was very exciting. There were 215 votes in favour of the proposal and 208 votes against it. Most importantly, no member of the opposition Democratic Party voted against this bill, which shows their unity. According to the US Constitution, only the Parliament has the right to declare war. Through this vote, Parliament has sent a clear message to the President not to use the military arbitrarily without the consent of Parliament. Even if the proposal is passed in the lower house of Parliament, still its path ahead is not easy. For any bill to become law, it must pass from both the Parliament and the Senate. Even after passes the Senate, proposal will still have to face the ultimate power of the President’s ‘veto power’ in the White House. It is predictable that President Trump may using veto power reject this proposal. But despite this, the passage of this proposal in Parliament is a major protest against Trump’s war policy and a political defeat as experts have expressed their opinion.
