Clean Electricity Meets 40% of New Energy Demand in 2025: Energy Transition Monitor

Global clean electricity generation is growing at more than twice the pace of overall energy supply growth, but emissions have yet to decline, as rising power demand offsets progress. Growing energy use by data centres, increased cooling needs and heavy industry are driving simultaneous expansion of both fossil-fuel and clean energy.

The energy transition is also moving at two speeds. Around 60% of global emissions, mainly from power generation and road transport, are being tackled rapidly through clean electrification, often at little or no additional cost. Progress is slower in aviation, shipping, heavy industry and agriculture, which account for the remaining 40% and require costlier or still-emerging low-carbon solutions.
