Kejriwal Pushes Automakers for Written Assurances on E20-Compatible Vehicles
New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday said he would write to three leading automobile manufacturers, seeking written assurances that the use of E20 fuel neither damages vehicle engines nor reduces fuel efficiency.
Addressing a press conference in the national capital, Kejriwal said letters would be sent to Maruti Suzuki, Toyota Kirloskar, and Hero MotoCorp, asking them to clarify their position on the compatibility of E20 fuel with their vehicles. He alleged that the companies’ public statements endorsing E20 fuel were at odds with the guidance provided in their vehicle owner manuals.
The former Delhi chief minister Kejriwal pressed the Centre to make ethanol-blended fuel optional, which will allow consumers to choose between regular petrol and E20 fuel. Kejriwal also announced that he would write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, conveying what he described as a “strong protest” from people against ethanol blending in petrol.
