Lok Sabha Introduces Bill to Tighten Rules for Delayed Birth, Death Registration

NEW DELHI: The Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, 2026, has been introduced by the government on Wednesday in the Lok Sabha. This is announced  to tighten provisions for delayed registration of births and deaths and encourage citizens to report such events on time.

Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai tabled the Bill amid opposition protests demanding the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah during the debate on the anti-paper leak Bill. As per parliamentary procedure, Speaker Om Birla invited opposition members to speak against the Bill’s introduction, but none did, after which Rai formally introduced the proposed legislation.
