PM Hails Landmark Launch of India’s First Imaging Satellite in Geostationary Orbit
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday hailed the Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) successful launch of GSLV-F17 carrying EOS-05, describing the achievement as a proud moment for the country.
The GSLV-F17 rocket lifted off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh, at 2:55 am and successfully placed the 2,367-kg EOS-05 Earth observation satellite into its intended sub-geosynchronous transfer orbit.
EOS-05 is India’s first imaging satellite designed to operate from a geosynchronous orbit, marking a significant milestone in the country’s Earth-observation capabilities.
“Yet another outstanding achievement by ISRO and a proud moment for our nation. The successful launch of GSLV-F17 carrying EOS-05, India’s first-ever imaging satellite from Geosynchronous orbit is a reflection of the excellence, innovation and growing capabilities that define India’s space sector,” Modi said in a post on X.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the growing capabilities of India’s space sector and the contribution of domestic industry to the country’s expanding space programme.
The mission marked the 19th flight of India’s Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV). ISRO said the satellite was precisely injected into its intended orbit and that the mission had been successfully accomplished.
EOS-05 is expected to provide advanced Earth imaging from its eventual geosynchronous operational position, supporting applications including disaster management, agriculture, environmental monitoring and natural-resource assessment.
