Pune Tragedy: Truck Ploughs Into Warkari Pilgrims, Three Women Dead

PUNE: Three women warkaris (devotees of Lord Vitthal) were killed and four others injured after a truck accompanying a waari procession ran over them in Maharashtra’s Pune district on Monday morning, police said.

According to a preliminary inquiry, the 70-year-old truck driver, who was reportedly unwell and taking medication for fever and cold, lost control of the vehicle while overtaking another vehicle. The truck allegedly swerved to the left and ploughed into the group of women participating in the procession.

The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are examining the exact circumstances that led to the fatal accident.
